Cocktail Dresses trending on the fashion radar

New Year parties have just got over and wedding seasons are round the corner. We women know how exciting and challenging it is for us to scout for that one perfect cocktail dress that can enliven our evening. Dress code, filtering out the trending shades and patterns, there goes a lot of brainstorming in choosing the ultimate pick. Be it a wedding party or a New Year bash, fashionistas seem to be completely in awe of those cocktail dresses that look confident and ooze glamour at the same time.

From beauty pageants to fashion shows, this season has seen more of models traipsing in crisp evening wear, structured silhouettes, evening capes, redefining retro formula with ’50s pantsuits and knee-length kurtas and coats on the runway. So, as January walks in, we have brought some of the trendiest picks that are going to rule the fashion radar. Manish Malhotra, Amoh by Jade, Masaba Gupta or Narendra Kumar, here are some of the filtered design patterns from popular platforms like Lakme Fashion Week and Amazon India Fashion Week.

Bold Necklines:

Big bold fashion is back this season. Designers are experimenting with asymmetrical necklines, plunging necklines and structured collared details.

Twist on collar bones, off-shoulder, one-shoulder, bare shouldered dress, Bardot dress, cape shoulders and long sleeves are also flooding the runway.

Versatile Patterns:

Apart from common design patterns like ruching, ruffles and frills, a lot of layering is doing around on the ramp. Tuxedo teamed with bralette, smart separates added with a drapey twist of stoles/dupatta and layerings of pants with sari dress are totally in.

Designers’ love affair with evening gowns is also continuing with taffeta dresses, bias-cut slip dresses, tulle gown, exotic wildflowers and tribal prints.

For the experimental ones, dhoti styled dresses paired with smart jackets, sari-jumpsuits, capes and engineered jacquards are in for a delight. Not to mention, architectural patterns are a sight for sore eyes this time.

Sheer Fabric:

Sheer and lucid fabrics are overpowering the fashion radar. Apart from rich georgettes, silk, chiffons and tulle, velvets and organza are also creating a whimsical fantasy.

Colour Splash:

This season is all about mixing various shades. If we talk about the fashion shows 2017, Lakme Fashion Week had eponymous designers including Narendra Kumar experimenting with various shades of green (also Pantone Colour of the Year 2017).

Other labels like Amoh by Jade, Nachiket Barve, Ritu Kumar, Urvashi Joneja and Sahil Aneja blended black, red, teal, lush pastels like champagne pink, mint, leafy greens and ivory white. Oh yes, not to forget the metallic shade that made a glittering appearance on the runway.

Add-ons:

Like we mentioned earlier, embellished capes are making powerful foray into the party wear section. Sexy cut-outs, criss-cross patterns, pant-cum-sari dress, long sleeves can also be spotted on the ramp.

If you take a look at the year’s beauty pageant Miss Universe 2017, you will notice the train that flowed behind fashion divas. Designers also opted to keep maximum length and volume on the back with a hybrid of sleeve and capes.

Sequined accents, feathery embellishments, crystals on fringes only added to the sparkles.
