Ciceroni Curated Corner at The Eclectic Edit
Almost a year ago, Ciceroni was born out of an idea to serve as a city guide to its fashionable paramours. After reviewing uncountable exhibitions, meeting fashion mavens, interviewing promising designers and discovering trendsetting talents in the town, we have come to a point where we breathe fashion every day. But you know, we often used to wonder how it would be like having our own platform with our personal favourite labels and surrounded by style doyens all around. And guess what? The opportunity knocked in when Knotty Tales and Weekend Window offered us to bring up our own curated corner at The Eclectic Edit. That was literally a ‘goosebump’ moment for us!
With Ciceroni Curated Corner happening at The Eclectic Edit tomorrow, here’s a deep insight of our participating brands and their design philosophies that made us fall in love with them. Right from their wardrobe sensibilities, veritable aesthetic sense to their nonchalant individuality, they have impressed us in every way. For them, fashion is no less than a living entity.
Chiaroscuro
First in the line is the New Delhi-based handbag label Chiaroscuro, the brainchild of Smriti Sain, a lady who carries an eternal love for leather.
After pursuing her course from NIFT and a popular design institute of Milan, she returned to India and worked with renowned names including Zara, Woodland, Ritu Kumar apart from participating in various fashion weeks.
Today, Smriti’s eponymous brand Chiaroscuro boasts of a collection of classiest pieces of leather handbags that one could ever own.
We loved the way she has christened each of her bags to give them an identity of their own. Not to mention, Jamie, Emma, Anabelle, Ellie, Stella have all got us swooning over them.
Noya
Let’s take you back to the time when people were unsure whether khadi could be woven into a garment. It had its own aesthetical limitations but that did not stop Textile and Graphic designer Ujjval Shah from marveling its texture and beauty.
While studying at NID, she developed a strong inclination towards this fabric and came up with her own label Noya over 14 years ago.
The brand has been working with weavers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and breaking the stereotypes by using its obstacles as strengths. Their claim to fame is their khadi Chaniya Cholis that has received tremendous love from its customers. Admired for its Indo-western pieces, Noya has only expanded by leaps and bounds in these years.
Rituals
Minimal fashion is timeless. The more you breathe it, the more you feel drawn towards it. If you’re an admirer of this trend, you would know that it is joyful, luxurious, creative but not simple.
Rituals, started by Dhyani Dave 2.5 years ago has carved a niche in the city fashion industry through its classy silhouettes, ethnic wear and statement ajrak prints on comfortable Indian fabrics like khadi and cotton.
The label is also loved for its beautiful hand embroidery on both casual and ceremonial wear. As Dhyani puts in, her style mantra is quite minimalistic and feeling confident in whatever she wears. Looking at her design philosophy, we can’t agree more.
Karnam
Founded in April 2016, Karnam is an amalgamation of the names of its two chief founders Poonam Mallah and Kripa Shankar Nishad who came together with the idea of sustainable fashion after getting hitched with each other.
Having pursued their textile designing from NIFT Gandhinagar, these creative heads worked together to create trendy Indo-western garments made from handloom and naturally dyed fabric.
Poonam is fond of wearing anti-fit garments with a western twist and let comfort be her major style staple. Her product repertoire boasts of interesting silhouettes, eco-friendly tops and tunics and classy festive wear.
Twenty Second May [5]
Niya Dholu’s Twenty Second May [5] is a luxury clothing line that is a mash-up of contemporary designs on the timeless cotton. With a touch of whimsy on breezy ethnic silhouettes, the brand is loved for its subtle detailing, appliqué work and a perfect fit.
Niya is a NIFT Gandhinagar alumnus and puts her heart and soul in her feminine designs. Crafted with love and vibrant colours, one just loves twirling in her comfy apparels.
Kshma & Devanshi
Jointly run by two NIFT classmates Kshma & Devanshi, KD has ventured into city’s fashion industry with their well-fitted casual wear in earthy palettes.
Their couture garments comprise of simple silhouettes with minor khat work, crop tops, pants and lovely dresses. The label designs customized festive and bridal wear as well.
Fresh and trendy, KD’s apparels are tailored for every modern woman. Interestingly, Devanshi is inclined towards simple baggy outfits while her partner Kshma balances her personal statement with her fitted sartorial choices.
Jutte
Llavinaa M Ramchandani’s penchant for wearing beautiful shoes compelled her to create her own handcrafted footwear label Jutte. This 1.5 year old label has a sense of edginess and adds dramatic proportions to every kind of attire.
Bohemian or formal office wear, Jutte’s textured brogues, mules, flat shoes, loafers in various colours are must-haves in your wardrobe.
