An honest confession: no matter, how much our closet is stacked with clothes but with the onset of festive season, we start looking for newer, brighter, richer and trendier options. Scouting for unique pieces, following latest fashion trends, experimenting with mix and match clothes and what not… And adding to the excitement of this season are grand wedding functions. Amidst a lot of shor sharaba, glamour and shimmer, the festivities become all the more enjoyable, isn’t it?This year, we tried to filter out the best, sober and unique options in festive wear straight from the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2017’s runway. Renowned designers presenting their creations, models traipsing in ornate lehengas, shararas, ghararas in varied colours and patterns had us swooning over them. Read on to find the trending options this season.

Go Traditional

Play with understated tones or evergreen traditional colours like red and yellow. Gaurang Shah went a notch high with beautiful motifs and miniature paintings of Ajanta and Ellora in Kalamkari to complete head-to-toe desi attire.

Use your creativity to blend rich colours like purple, blue, red and channel your inner diva. Here, we derive inspiration from Manoj Agarrwal’s royal collection Jodhaa that introduced richly embroidered minaar lehengas in the hues of ink blue and red. Class and elegance in tandem!

Off shoulder drama

Off shoulder drama

There is something about off-shoulder patterned tops and blouses. If worn properly, they look fashionable, trendy and vouch for your trendspotting fashion sense. Feel free to wear them with a low-waist skirt, gherdaar lehenga, dhoti pants and spruce up the wardrobe with your choice of dupatta or stoles.

Amit Aggarwal’s bold layering inspired by architectural patterns also added some dramatic twist to the festive wear.

Thigh-high slit lehengas

If you’re going to be a part of a function of someone close, you deserve to be talked about. Opting for a thigh-high slit or side slit lehenga may give you the reason to be the centre of the attention. Pair it with a crop top or a printed blouse with a patterned dupatta, add quirky accessories and girl, you’ve upped your style game.

Tiered lehengas

Tiered lehengas have grabbed their spot on the runway lately. Be it fluorescent or bright shades, they are paired with contrasting blouses, off-shoulders and tops!

We loved how Malaika Arora Khan sashayed down in her two tiered lehenga worn with a bralette on LFW Summer/Resort 2017.

Florals

For those who love to experiment with their wardrobe, they can opt for florals. Kriti Sanon’s fusion mix of bralette and lehenga skirt comes as a good option here.

Jacket with ghaghara and dupatta

Interesting ensembles of embroidered jackets with skirts, ghagaras and churidaars are winning everyone’s hearts. A front-open jacket with lehengas and embellished dupattas is one of the most favoured look these days.

We also loved the way Aditi Rao Hydari chose to go regal and classy in her black Jayanti Reddy ensemble comprising a breath-holding jacket with a flared lehenga and an ivory white blouse. Elegance personified!

Why not green?

LFW W/F 2017 also celebrated Pantone Colour of the Year- Green in interesting shades and pattern that turned out to grab a lot of eyeballs on the ramp. There were varieties in top wear like angarakha tops with brocade lehengas, skirts with frilled tops and long cape sleeved blouses. The added benefit is that the colour appeals to a fresh category in the festive wear section and will hence make you look like an eye candy.

Pastel Ensembles

Pastels are very much in the vogue lately. Low-waist lehengas with off-shoulder blouses, one-shoulder blouses or shirts look both smart and elegant. Powder blue, blush pink, nudes and champagnes have been clear winners in this category.

Jewel tones

Sometimes, we just want to stick to basics and look elegant at the same time. Here, jewel toned shades like red, blue, purple, blush pink or beige can be worked out to bring out the charm. Accentuate the look with subtle embroidered dupattas and fine jewels.

Apart from the conventional options like lehenga and ghagaras, fluid palazzos, dhoti pants, shararas and ghararas also make for an elegant festive ensemble. You just have to pick your right colour, accessories and you’re all set to dazzle.
