No wonder then that we witness the resurgence of the yester years trends in the modern times.
Indian designers have been translating the global fashion trends in the traditional wear since decades now. Thanks to these far sighted designers, our actresses were at par in Fashion and style with their western contemporaries.
Have you ever wondered what made Zeenat Aman the 70’s icon for boho chicness or how Mumtaz rocked the saree? Do you ever think that probably your mom wore quite a few stylish essentials like puffed sleeves and checkered sarees in her hey days?
We have decoded the global trends for 2016 and brought to you our Desi version of it just so that you can be effortlessly stylish, even in ethnic wear.
1) Old English Sleeve
Vintage sleeves like the Leg of Mutton and Bishop sleeves have taken over the Fashion runways this season. From J.W.Anderson to Simon Rocha, British designers have brought back the old world vintage charm. From day-wear blouson tops to evening dresses, leg of mutton sleeves has always rendered a classic style. They transport you to the old world charm of British tea-parties.
Our Indian designers, as they often do, have tweaked this trend to suit the Indian sensibility. The fashionistas could opt for these sleeves not only in tops and dresses but also in blouses for a contemporary twist.
2) Sheer Lace
Since its boom in the early 1700, lace has been synonymous with royalty and opulence. From adorning the dresses and doors to making an ultra glamorous fashion statement, this handcrafted lace trend has been around for centuries lending a regal touch.
Lace has been an integral part of the bridal trousseau collection even in India. From Manish Malhotra to Sabyasachi Mukherjee, the trailblazers of the design fraternity have been translating this trend in the most exquisite fashion to lure the Indian audience. This year too, the sheer lace trend has taken over the fashion scenario.
Wear it in form of lacy blouson tops or sheer evening dresses. If you want to go ethnic, try the sheer sharara and lehenga teamed with solid tops.
3) Cold Shoulder
The 80’s trend of bare shoulders has made a grand come back. Designers across the globe are creating their lines with bare shoulder also known as cold shoulder for obvious reasons. It has become almost like a Fashion fad that is here to stay. From celebrities to fashionistas, everyone is flaunting this trend, either in tops or in dresses.
Be bold and experiment with crop tops with cold shoulder and team it with either a saree or a lehenga or a sharara for the trendy ethnic look.
4) Sporty look
Have the white plimsolls made an entry in your wardrobe yet? No? Go right ahead and buy one because you don’t want to be living under the rock my friend. Athletic bodies, sporty tee-shirts with numbers embossed on it and white / gold plimsolls are your gatepass to style havens.
Rather than Fashion designers, here the stylists have taken it personally on them to bring in the swag by fusing east and west. Pair them with handloom saree to bring back the swag.
5) Kimono Style Trench coat
Originally made in early 1850’s, Trench coats were meant to protect the Army officers from the heavy rains during the First World War. Like with any other functional piece of clothing, Trench coat saw their day of glory in the 60’s when intellectuals started wearing trench coats over turtle necks. Travel to 2016, they are now a raging trend internationally. Different fabrics are used to create trench coats for different occasions.
While some designers have created Cotton trench coat style layers to wear over dress or tee-shirts, some designers have experimented with Indian fabrics to give it a stylish look for contemporary ethnic wear.
Team with lehenga or a saree and belt it to up the glam quotient.
