Rainy days are actually bad or probably worst days for hair. Monsoon season brings a lot of hair problems and one among them is frizzy hair. You are faced with dull and dry hair which becomes very difficult to manage. Apart from this, you also may generally observe oily scalp and dry hair ends during monsoon season which are two really difficult problems to tackle. Hair that is naturally curly can also become extra frizzy during monsoons, due to excess moisture in the air. Dry hair is porous and absorbs moisture from the air. This makes the hair swell and become ungainly and frizzy. Apart from hereditary factors, hair that has been repeatedly coloured, dyed, permed or bleached can become frizzy.
So, how can we control frizz?
Here are some natural remedies to tame monsoon frizz from my 50+ years of experience in herbal beauty industry
First of all, use a very mild shampoo. Use very little shampoo and rinse your hair well with water. After shampoo, apply a creamy conditioner, massaging it lightly into the hair. Leave on for 2 minutes and rinse off with plain water. Don’t wash off all the conditioner; leaving a little on makes the hair stay softer and smoother. You can also apply hair serum and leave it on for some time and wash it.
However, the best way to treat hair frizz is to use home-made remedies which are easy to make and soothing to the hair and scalp.
VEGETABLE OIL SERUM
Take 2 drops of any light vegetable oil like Sunflower Oil. Put it on your palms and rub the palms lightly together, so that the oil spreads over both palms. Smooth the palms over the hair. Or, take the ends of the hair in your palms and scrunch them. This works better on dry hair. Leave the oil on.
EGG, MAYONNAISE & OLIVE OIL MASK
Mix 1 Egg to 1 Tablespoon Mayonnaise and 1 Teaspoon Olive Oil. Mix this paste properly and apply it on your hair, section by section. Leave it on for half an hour and then wash the hair with normal water. The high protein content helps smoothen the frizz.
DIY CONDITIONER SPRAY
Mix some water with creamy hair conditioner that you normally use and put it in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on your dry frizzy hair. Then comb them so that it spreads evenly through the hair. It will help in adding moisture to your dry hair.
DEEP CONDITIONING MIX
It is best to have weekly deep conditioning treatment for your mane before shampooing them. Mix together 1 Egg, 1 Tablespoon Castor Oil, spritz of Lemon juice and 1 teaspoon pure Glycerin. Apply this paste on the hair, wear a plastic shower cap and keep on for an hour. The result effect will be absolutely soft locks.
HOT OIL TREATMENT
The traditional weekly champi is another way to ensure a healthy scalp and hair. Once or twice a week heat pure coconut oil and apply on the scalp and hair. Then dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap the hot towel around the head, like a turban. Keep it on for 5 minutes. Repeat the hot towel wrap 3 to 4 times.
This process will help increase blood circulation on your scalp and improve oil penetration better.
GENERAL TIPS TO CARE FOR HAIR WHILE WASHING
- Avoid hot water to wash the hair. Instead use normal running water. Rinsing the hair with cool water helps frizzy hair. Hot water can actually increase the frizz.
- After the shampoo, wrap an old tee-shirt around the head and let it soak up water. Avoid rubbing.
- Avoid using a Hair Dryer every time and let the hair dry naturally.
- Avoid brushing the hair. Use a wide-toothed comb or finger-dry the hair.
- If you do use a hair dryer at home, use a big round brush. Divide the hair into sections. Pin them up and dry one section at a time. Blow in a downward direction. Using the dryer over the hair can cause more frizz.
