Description
The craft of Kashmir Papier Mache refers, in practise, to the technique of surface decoration rather than the creation of the body of the object. Brought to India by the Muslims saint Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani from Persia in the 14th century, this fine craft requires infinite patience and mastery over the art. Narrating tales of the ancient Indian craft, this Papier Mache Rectangular Clutch will be an artistic keepsake to add to your treasured accessory collection. I have a thirsty fish in me that can never find enough of what it’s thirsty for! Show me the way to the ocean! Break these half-measures, these small containers. In Bengal and in Pattachitra art, fish are considered to be very auspicious . Apindra Swain has depicted these beautiful fish gravitating towards the ocean on this black fold over bag, an eternal quest to be where they belong. These clutches are completely handmade made using papier mache technique by artisans in Kashmir. The paper used is waste paper from the printing press there and are then hand-painted by master artists.
