Every year the women of New York, leave behind the past and look forward to the future… this is known as Fashion week – Carie Bradshaw, Sex and the City.

If there is one change, that people dont dread about but actually look forward to it’s the changing Fashion trends. Everybody is open to new styles and latest trends, leading to innumerable labels and designers launching their new collections 4 times a year in form of Fashion weeks. Lakme Fashion Week just rounded up their Summer Resort collection 2020 and all we can say is that the #five-days-of-fashion extravaganza was truly a glamour haven that gave us some major style inspiration. 

From dramatic shoulders to flirty fringes and ruffles and from fitted corsets to puffed silhouettes, the runway showcased a spectacular show that boasted of some timeless classic ensembles along with some jaw-dropping trends. 

Payal Singhal


Payal Singhal’s SS20 collection at LFW was a bursting kaleidoscope that redefined resortwear. 

A play with tassels, frills, and drapes, the vibrant collection is ideal for every intimate function where one wants to look flattering without compromising on comfort. The designer has revisited classic trousers with side tassels, thread knots at the hemline, balloony silhouette and sharara style. These are teamed with georgette and organza jackets and short kurtas. The motifs included leaves, florals, birds, and clouds while the ensembles are in soft colours including blush pink, ether, nude and classic black, and white. Singhal uses her signature style and adds a touch of traditional by using Bandhani, Abla, Ikat, Kantha, Kashida and Gota Patti work in parts. The collection is called Parveneh and is available at her flagship store and stockists.

House of Kotwara


Meera and Muzaffar Ali’s House of Kotwara has always narrated tales of India’s rich textiles and crafts. Pastels, corsets and jackets took over House of Kotwara’s LFW S/S 2020 collection! 

Dressed in a mix of Indian and western silhouettes, the models walked the ramp in jackets, dresses,corsets, jumpsuits, kurtas and lehengas, with each one handcrafted with breezy fabrics like organza, mul and linen keeping in mind all your festive and holiday getaways. Intricately textured with floral chikankari in contrasting hues and highlighted with kamdani and applique, the ensembles were seen in shades of blue, pink, olive, black and white to sync in with the spring/ summer colour palette and the trending pastels. 

Jade by Monica & Karishma

Plunging Necklines, structured layers and flirty ruffles reminiscence the quintessential Indian summer sonnet at Monica & Karishma’s LFW SS 2020 collection. 

Think of sleek cuts, sheer fabrics, embellished cape blouses and flowy silhouettes. ‘Songs of Summer’ from Jade by Monica & Karishma is inspired by the surreal free-spirited charm of Indian summer. The eclectic collection brilliantly translates the playful yet calming, edgy yet effortless and dramatic yet unpretentious vibe of a sultry summer rendezvous. Structured shoulders, quaint collars and plunging necklines embellished with intricate designs and elaborate ruffles in neutral tones and dreamy organza set the right tone for jazzing up the spring summer occasion wear and slaying it with style.


Chola 

The Label Chola by Sohaya Misra in collaboration with The Reebok showcased at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort’20 with a high octane performance that left the viewers spellbound. 

Tulle Skirts, Palazzos and Dhotis with the ‘ninja black eye mask make-up’ added drama to the ramp. The collection was focused on relaxed silhouettes, effortless and quirky styles that is the core brand DNA. Ninja Warriors, the thematic show, featured classic and bold colors including black, white, red, blue and yellow with minimal prints and details in layering. Easy breezy silhouettes is just the way for Indian Summers and Chola got it just about right. 

Ritu Kumar

Ritu X Lenzing Ecovera took a step forward towards Sustainability with the collection “Nature’s Origami” at Lakme Fashion Week SS 2020. 

The collection brought forth a parade of quintessential Ritu Kumar ethnic printed versatile dhotis, oversized kimonos, maxi dresses, coats and trousers in sundowner colour palatte to the ramp. A subtle play of sleeves was seen with varied options like bell sleeves, puff sleeves and lantern sleeves taking the centre stage. An Indigenous combination of orange and red printed turtle neck maxi with an off white jacket with tassels is definitely droolworthy.

Shivan & Narresh


Flirty and screaming “holiday” Shivan and Narresh’s latest Spring/ Summer 2020 collection in collaboration with Caprese at the Lakme Fashion Week was an extension of their Seoul Series. 

Known predominantly for their quirky prints and bohemian styles, the label’s new range draws inspiration from the unparalleled artworks from the Korean Peninsula that encapsulate two signature prints called Hututi Rose and Hututi Sky. Taking forms of silk scarf bodysuits, pleated skirts, voluminous pants, quilted cropped jackets, trikinis, draped sarees and lehengas in contemporary fabrics like taffeta, organza, foil, Italian jersey and leather, the duo has made a smooth transition from Indian tribal aesthetics to statement-making Korean palette. From drapes and sheers to high slits and pop hues like tangerine and sunshine yellows, detailing was the key highlight in the designer duo’s LFW collection. 

Mohammed Mazhar

Mohammed Mazhar’s collection at Lakme Fashion Week 2020, named ‘Jeeansaaz’ is an ode to saddlers that craft the saddle for horses. The collection, that salutes the efforts of the marginal craftsmen, is an edgy take on the classic B&W. 

Featuring bold midis, asymmetrical blouses and armour plate inspired corsets, this line is bohemian chic at its sharpest. The trousers with horseshoe motifs are eye-catching while the shawl collared mulmul shirt spells casual chic. All those experimental fashionistas who want to ditch the regular pastels and summer colours must look up to this collection for style-inspo, this season!

Tanieya Khanuja


Dramatic shoulders, oversized bows and mermaid sheath dresses drenched in glistening water sequins took over the ramp on day 5 of LFW SS2020 with Tanieya Khanuja’s show.

Smashing the summer sartorial stereotypes, the collection boasted of metallic hues, sheath dresses, OTT silhouettes and oodles of jazz! Whether it’s the ruffles razzmatazz on the sleeves or asymmetrical hemlines or the super sensuous thigh-high slits, every element of the ensemble spelled drama. The colour palette ranged from aqua pastels to metallic jewel tones, all glossified to glamour. Sleek cuts, structured shoulders and textured sheath silhouettes infused a fresh take on summer fashion.

Amit Aggarwal

Amit Aggarwal’s show was the perfect end to 5 days of fine fashion. With the theme being #BetterIn3D, this season’s collection was all about breaking barriers, smart innovation and bolder colours. 

Aggarwal’s collection features highly-structured outfits with sharp cuts, using fabrics like organza, tulle and chiffon. Usage of colours like emerald green, mauve, berry, red and violet invoke a vision of a powerful future. Kareena Kapoor’s walked the ramp in a gorgeous emerald green ensemble with a plunging neckline, with a long trail elevated by his signature polymers crafted into the fabric to create 3D forms. In addition to the mesmerizing collection, the 3D projections on the walls of the venue acted as the perfect backdrop in the celebration of futuristic fashion.
